Paso Robles Wineries

Paso Robles Wineries

wenty years ago Paso Robles was cattle country and had only ten area wineries. Today, 200 wineries have sprouted among the golden rolling hills. There are three main appellations and a smaller one, York Mountain. The Paso Robles AVA lies east of the Santa Lucia Mountains, inland from Cambria. Encompassing 610,000 acres, the region is reminiscent of Tuscany, but has over 200 wineries as opposed to the grander scale of the 1000 plus wineries. The hot, dry east side of Paso Robles, is populated by the bigger producers who benefit from the wide swings in day to night time temperatures. The east side of Paso has been referred to as the “Land of Cabernet.” The west side wineries are primarily smaller operations, the mom-and-pop, boutique producers with the exception of Justin.

See “Top Twenty Paso Robles Wineries” at the end of this guide for more information on the individual outstanding wineries on the east and west side of the local wine country.
