Avila Beach

Avila Beach

This is the favorite beach of San Luis Obispo County locals. Avila Beach is a south-facing beach town and nearly always warmer than any other beach on the Central Coast.

Beginning in the 1990’s, a half-mile wide excavation was necessary to clean up seepage from old Unocal oil pipes underneath Front Street to the ocean. Nearly 7000 tons of contaminated soil was removed and replaced with sand from Guadalupe to the south.

There are several luxury hotels in Avila Beach and some very good restaurants, like the Old Port Inn and McPhee’s Grill at the Avila Beach Golf Resort. With a lively farmers market and local bands performing on Friday evenings from 4 to 8 p.m. in the summer, Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort with its hillside hot tubs, a championship golf course, and music festivals and concerts throughout the year, and a pristine beach, little Avila Beach packs quite a punch. Ride a bike, fish, get a massage, kayak, swim, snorkel, shop, eat, or just laze in the sun. Avila is what every beach town aspires to be.
