Lake San Antonio Resort and Marina

Lake San Antonio Resort and Marina

Of the three local lakes, San Antonio is the biggest and located in Monterey County not San Luis Obispo County. Although Lake San Antonio is bigger than its neighbor Lake Nacimiento to the south, San Antonio gets far fewer visitors. Unlike, Nacimiento, Lake San Antonio and the dam provide groundwater for the San Antonio River. Without the lake, the river would run dry in the summer months.

There are only 16 rental units on the south side of the lake and one houseboat. But 2000 campsites are available making it one of California’s largest camping facilities. A small general store and a café on the south shore are open year-round and boat rentals are offered at the marina as well as slip rentals if you bring your own watercraft. Dry storage is also available here.

The big attraction at Lake San Antonio are the yearly eagle cruises in January and February. The lake is a wintering habitat for America’s symbol, the bald eagle. It is truly a thrill to see these majestic birds in the wild, roosting in the trees and flying overhead. The cruises are extremely popular and tickets sell out fast. Lake San Antonio is also the site of the annual Wildflower Triathlon.
